Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission Sets November Meeting

Washington – The 37th meeting of the national Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission will take place Sunday, October 25, on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Primary topics on the agenda are the ongoing preparations for the Commission’s final report to Congress, which is due no later than April 30, 2010, and the status of planning for the future of the ALBC’s Web site, which is housed at the University of Illinois.

Members of the ALBC Foundation, which is poised to carry on the work of the Commission, will also participate in the meeting.

Congress established the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission to plan the nation’s celebration of the 16th president’s 200th birthday in 2009.  The Commission works to engage the broadest range of individuals and groups in the commemoration.  Through education programs, public forums, and the arts, in communities across the nation, the Commission provides an opportunity to re-examine Lincoln’s legacy in our 21st century democracy.  Its members, who are appointed by the president and congressional leaders, include political leaders, jurists, historians, and collectors.  For more information, please visit www.abrahamlincoln200.org.
