FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lincoln Bicentennial Launches Blog

Washington – There’s no end to the great ideas for celebrating Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday!

In fact, there are more suggestions than time or budget to implement them all – at least by the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.  So, hoping someone can make them a reality, ALBC’s executive director today launched a blog to share some of those many idea that come across her desk nearly every day.

The Lincoln Bicentennial blog is available on the ALBC’s Web site at: http://www.abrahamlincoln200.org/blog.aspx

“Lincoln lovers everywhere send me e-mails, phone calls, and handwritten letters,” writes Eileen Mackevich.  “These often original and always heartfelt ideas should not vanish into the air even though all too frequently there are no funds for their execution.  Occasionally it is only a party of one who enthuses about an idea. I want to share their sentiments. Perhaps when these ideas are in the air we breathe, our search for a more perfect union may be more nearly fulfilled.”

Mackevich writes that in addition to sharing some of the program suggestions sent to her, she intends to share updates on ALBC program plans – and “unresolved issues” about various programs “so that you can take up the challenge and improve these efforts.”

Her first blog post provides a quick report on the Mother’s Day program that happened at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial site in Indiana on Sunday.  Despite blustery, rainy weather, 300 intrepid souls turned out to honor Lincoln’s mother and step-mother.
